Mary Clarkson

Mary Joyce Clarkson passed away quietly in Harahan, LA on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Jack D. Clarkson for 56 years. Mother of Mary Lynne Springmann, Patricia Ann Stallings, Sharon Lee Clarkson and the late Charles Kirk Clarkson. Mother-In-Law of Scott Springmann and the late Thomas R. Stallings. Sister of the late Grace E. Behler. Daughter of the late Mary F. Peppe and Charles L. Peppe. Grandmother of Jennifer Stallings ( Vernon), Amanda Stallings Ayala (Ronald), and Eric Springmann (Mary Kate). Great-grandmother of Sarah and Jacob April and Connor and Cohen Ayala. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Aged 88 years.
A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harahan for the past 61 years.
Mrs. Clarkson was a parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church located in Harahan, LA and a recipient of the distinguished Order of St. Louis IX Medallion. In dedicated service to her church community, she was a lay Eucharistic minister, a reader of the gospel during Sunday masses and an adorer at the St. Rita Adoration Chapel. Mrs. Clarkson was a registered nurse who worked at the main Ochsner Hospital located in Jefferson, LA as both the head nurse in the Infectious Disease department and as the Director of Clinical Services over several departments within Ochsner.
In her position as the Director of Clinical Services, Mrs. Clarkson, among other distinguished accomplishments, lead many training seminars in the prevention of the spread of AIDS among hospital staff during the treatment of patients, conducting several seminars about this subject throughout the country. Mrs. Clarkson was a devoted wife and loving parent and grandparent of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will always be remembered as a sweet and caring person by everyone she met throughout her entire lifetime.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Visitation at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Highway in Harahan, LA on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 10:30AM to 12:00PM, followed by a Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at the Chapel of Peace at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, LA.
