Elizabeth Jane Crowell

Elizabeth Jane Crowell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2023, with her daughters by her side. She was born in New Orleans on June 19, 1939 to the late Jack Jacob and Julia Henderson Jacob. She was a graduate of Fortier High School, Class of 1957, Soule’ Business College, 1958, and the Jefferson Parish Vocational-Technical School Practical Nursing Program, 1977. She later completed the Tulane Paralegal Studies Program.
Jane worked for several years as a nurse for a busy orthopedic practice in New Orleans. Following her nursing career, she worked as a legal secretary and a paralegal in the oil and gas industry. In the years leading to retirement, she was employed by Chevron Corporation. At the time of her death, she was an active volunteer at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center working with the Alzheimer’s Care & Enrichment (ACE) Program.
Jane is the mother of Rachel Smith (Scott) and Rebecca Mercer. Grandmother of, Hadley and Jack Smith, and Jacob, Ian and Noah Mercer. Sister of Jerry Jacob (Marcia) and family.
We wish to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff for the compassionate care they provided Jane during her illness. Especially those on 10 West at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Care & Enrichment (ACE) Program at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 2729 Lowerline St., New Orleans, 70125, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at Hope Mausoleum at a later date. For condolences, visit www.tharpcares.com.
